States with Offer in Compromise

Arizona Arkansas California New York Rhode Island Texas

are examples of states who have a formal offer in compromise programs although This is an incomplete list of those states having an offer in compromise program. Virtually every state has one or more negotiating programs.  Some states will abate penalties only, some will sometimes abate interest also, some will put you on a non-collect status.  There are many ways to negotiate with States.

There also exists a multi-state program for negotiating business liabilities.  Most states are participating in this program and many states have expanded the voluntary disclosure program.

Some states have implemented tax amnesty programs which boils down to a limited time offer to pay tax due, avoid penalties and sometimes avoid interest.

As states search for more and more revenue to fund programs without tax increases, look for higher collection efforts, a tougher approach,  partially offset by the politically correct tax amnesty and offer in compromise programs.

We suggest you call us to determine your course of action.  We can sometimes reach a recommended settlement with a state under voluntary disclosure which will not reveal who you are.
